The Ome ‘Juniper’ Curly Maple is a professional quality old time, frailing/clawhammer banjo, hand built in Boulder, Colarado, USA. This pictured model includes the deluxe Ome wooden armrest. See more details below. The armrest has a silky smooth finish and beautifully complements the look of the banjo. It is comfortable to play, and I think it improves my arm position above the banjo head. I ended up ordering a second Maple armrest for an open back banjo.”.

After years of playing fingerpick guitar, I recently signed up for a beginning banjo class. Shorty P - Posted - 11/13/2009: 12:21:43

One is high like you have it, the other is flush. I much prefer the flush mount for one of my banjos, for the other I actually prefer the high mount. It all depends on how low the tension hoop sits. You should plant your pinky (and ring finger if both work for you) for three finger picking. Don't let a teacher tell you that you must plant both. A number of top pros plant only the little finger. Over time I was able to not lean into it as hard as I got more comfortable with the banjo and now I don't even think about it. It's very comfortable to me now. But I had a heck of a time getting used to it. I still don't think I prefer vega armrests but they don't bother me and aren't painful anymore. Good luck. 1four5 - Posted - 11/13/2009: 14:15:18 I really haven't noticed much 'comfort' difference between the radius of the Vega arm-rest, and the corner of the standard type on my other banjo. I didn't like either the high or the low position on my Goodtime, so I drilled holes in it and put it right where I wanted it. Edited by - 1four5 on 11/13/2009 14:16:21 DaveOmega - Posted - 11/13/2009: 16:49:26 I've never been smart enough to figure out how to mount the vega in the lower position. I know the Goodtime manual says that it's not designed to be flush mounted. I can't tell from the picture above (the stewart mac link) what's holding the armrest onto the banjo in the flush mounting position. jpiperson2002 - Posted - 11/13/2009: 17:36:20 The Slimline wood armrest and the Nechville beveled wood armrest both fit the Goodtime openback and are more comfortable than the much thinner Vega style armrest. Here are some pictures of both armrests mounted on a Goodtime with a brief comparison; |
